Halloween is in the air

It’s the week of Samhain, the witches new year, and I sit here contemplating it and what it means to me.

Halloween.  All Hallows Eve.  This is the time of year when the veil between the living and the dead is at its thinnest.  Because of this, communicating with the dead is much easier on Samhain.  The spirits are roaming around us all the time, but on October 31 they seem able to reach us a bit better than on other nights of the year.  Make an effort to speak to them this week.  Be prepared for a response.

This is also a great time for renewal, a time to set intentions and cast spells.  The wheel of the year is reaching both its beginning and its ending.  Now is an excellent time for cleansing and refreshing everything, including both our inner selves and our outer world.  Let go of anything that has ceased to serve you and prepare for the good things that are coming your way.

It is a great time to renew any goals you may have set on January 1st.  Yes, those goals, those already-forgotten New Year resolutions.  Are they still important to you?  If so, take the time to use the energy of the witches new year to refuel the passion you once had for the thing, or things, you wish to manifest in your life.  Nothing is impossible.  But as a witchy sort, you already know this.

Halloween is a very powerful day for magick.  Plan your spells now and ground yourself.  The moon is waxing, growing ever bigger night by night, and her energy is there for the taking.  She is ready to help.

On the night of October 31, plan to take some time outdoors after the trick-or-treaters have gone home with their goodies.  Spend some time outside under the growing moon.  If you have a bit of privacy, cast your spells, set your intentions, meditate, and speak to your ancestors.  Light candles on a temporary altar.  Breathe in the cool autumn air.  Allow yourself to fully immerse into the entire experience.

Capture the energy of Samhain and celebrate!
