Things aren’t moving with your creative endeavor as fast as you would like them to. Is it because you’re so caught up in the act of wanting something so strongly that you can’t move? Or are household tasks and work projects keeping you from creative expression?
Take a breath and relax. All of us at times procrastinate. I think it’s a natural human tendency. We want to do what we want to do before we do what we need to do.
As a writer, this happens to me. It doesn’t happen all the time, but writer’s block does rear its ugly head now and then. When it does, I have to step back and reassess my current situation and figure out what’s keeping me stuck. Most of the time, there are household chores that keep me from relaxing into my work.
Just like the photo above of the cat in the window, our creative process is sometimes muddied by the mundane things we have to attend to in life. We can’t stop the rain from falling. We have to let it fall.
So goes the boring tasks we face in life. You know those things. Whether it’s the laundry or an errand you need to run, you just can’t seem to work around the fact that life things take precedence over any creative endeavor.
This is frustrating. I know. It happens to me, too.
You have a plan to sit down and write a piece of music, make a painting, write a poem. You have the best of intentions. However, worries about all of those things that need tending to creep in and close off the creative process.
We have to tend to life things first, no matter how badly we want to get our hands dirty in creative activities.
It’s such a simple thing to correct, and it’s taken me all of these years to finally figure it out. When I feel stuck because something is weighing down on me, I stop what I’m doing and complete the task that’s hanging over my head. Once I do that, it seems that the energies begin flowing through. Whether it’s a guilt complex left over from childhood or some other remnant of my past, I don’t know. All I do know is that guilt keeps me from doing what I want to do.
Nowadays, I take care of the life item and then I move into my creative space.
If this is going on in your world right now, stop what you are doing and attend to that mundane task right away. Get all of those things done that need doing and you will be amazed at how easy it is to get into that creative groove. The juices will flow and you will feel free to express yourself. There is no luxury quite like knowing that nothing is hanging over you, no luxury quite like having all the free time you need in order to nurture your creative side.
Plugging into the creative energies is a powerful feeling. Let that be your motivation, the feeling of flowing in the electric vein of expression and watching your prize project come into form.
It’s such a simple thing. Give it a try and let me know how it goes for you. Peace.
