I saw this image while scrolling through my Facebook feed and it made me laugh.
However, when I thought about the saying above I realized just how true it is. We should never allow ourselves to lose sleep over the opinions of small-minded people. They are the ones who would love nothing more than to pull you down to their level.
Insecurity breeds contempt for those who would rather fly with the eagles than wallow in the mud.
We must live our lives the way we want to. Give yourself permission to explore every nook and cranny in life. Grasp those things that resonate, and steer clear of anything that wishes to strip away your spirit. Live!
Sometimes it’s so hard to live here in the South. First of all, growing up here you are constantly reminded of the history. There are the folks who are proud of their Confederate heritage as well as those who despise anything to do with the Civil War. There are subtle reminders of slavery and segregation, two very dark and permanent stains on the history of the South. It seems that all these years later, the battle is still being waged on an invisible level. It’s hard to explain to those who are not from this region, but ask any Southerner what they think of it and I bet they’d be hard-pressed to disagree.
Other than the unfortunate history, there is one other big, overarching thing that has its grip on this area of the country.
Oh to be free of inhibitions and to be able to explore and express like this Icelandic pagan princess. Björk has been a personal icon to me for decades, since way back during the Sugarcubes days. Her attitude about life, the universe and everything has been a constant influence for me. Long live Björk!
